<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
Hello my sewing friends,</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
It has been awhile since I have had a chance to sew. It has been a crazy past year and a half. My kids now live on their own and I have started a new chapter. Unfortunately, I have nothing sewn to post on my blog, however, I hope to change that soon. What I have been working on is some of my sewing tools. 3 of my Pattern Drafters were redesigned, you can see them on my Etsy shop <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/sacurve" target="_blank">here.</a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
Most importantly, I have a complete redesign of the EZ wheel. The handle is much more comfortable and ergonomic. The wheel is larger at an eight inch circumference and the mechanics that help it roll are really nice and smooth.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
Anyway, if you get a chance, check it out on Kickstarter with the link below:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
Any help with spreading the word on social media or blogs is really appreciated. I have about 22 days left before the Kickstarter campaign is over.</div>

I am in the process of making this blouse for my DD. She has put it at the top of my queue. The fabric that was chosen is not as sheer as the one in the pick and she has promised to wear a cami underneath. Hopefully, she will remember her promise. I know...I am an old fuddy duddy :)<br />
Anyway, I was going to write a blog post about removing some back ease from the back pleat and I decided that it might be better videoed. Now, beware, I am trying to hold my phone and video my other hand rolling the measuring wheel. BTW, I am in love with that thing. In the past, I just prayed to the sewing gods that everything would be correct, like sleeve ease and other adjustments, because it was always so laborious and not so accurate to hold a measuring tape on it's side. I found a metric sewing wheel from Japan on Fehr trade's and Sew Incidentally's blog and thought that I must have one in inches. Any comment below will put you in the giveaway for one of these measuring wheel gizmos. I'll just do a random generator on Sunday evening October 6th...My Dad's birthday.<br />
<br />
Hugs and smooches!<br />

This is a partially lined black silk jacket from Burda's July 2013 issue. It is also a sewing course in the mag. It calls for Natte' fabric...what the heck? <a href="http://www.hartsfabric.com/silk-noil-black-71103.html" target="_blank">Hart's Black Silk Noil</a> is what I used and it is quite nice. The shiny black binding is a black silk charmeuse also from <a href="http://www.hartsfabric.com/black-silk-charmeuse-5523.html" target="_blank">Hart's</a>.<br />
I'm not sure I can do a proper review on this jacket, because I just don't do a lot of lined jackets. I live in Texas and it is not often that I even need outerwear. The jacket took more time than I expected but I think that is because I really needed better instructions than what the magazine offered. Burda mag instructions even on a sewing course is just confusing. I am so glad I did this jacket because it is one sexy beast. I made it for myself and the 17yo DD will not unhand it. <br />

Here are a few pics on my dress form that is actually too big now. I have lost quite a bit of weight and my dress form is just a smidge too big now which is why the front does not meet in the pics. The weight loss is for health reasons, so all is good.<br />

OK, I did not make this jacket for her, but she is a greedy little thing and looks quite cute in it. I will put some thin shoulder pads in it for her. My shoulders are larger and more square than hers and it was made for ME. :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Pattern adjustments and advice: When I made the muslin, the only change I made was to narrow the back at the center seam below the shoulder blades. I have a narrow back, so this is not unusual. Ditch the partial lining pieces and just redraft a full lining for this one. If you don't know how, I think there are a few good sites and books for this. (What I should have done). I also should have figured out how to miter corners before I tore into the binding issue. I just winged it and that is just not very satisfying. Burda does not cover this very well in the directions and I would look into this if you are not familiar with that.<br />
This is downloadable on the Burdastyle website <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/box-jacket-072013" target="_blank">here.</a><br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UocB41T9oCY/UenSxFQJXnI/AAAAAAAABvc/c1UfJleEdH0/s1600/IMAGE_6.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UocB41T9oCY/UenSxFQJXnI/AAAAAAAABvc/c1UfJleEdH0/s320/IMAGE_6.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
Ok, I am patiently waiting for my little wheel to come in from the manufacturers. It had some glitches that had to be fixed. I have been so excited about having something to measure armholes and sleeve heads because frankly I have been skipping that bit of information when I prepare my patterns. Trying to hold a tape measure on a stitching line or one of those flexible rulers is a pain in the butt. Plus, as you know, I love me some European pattern drafting. Have you noticed that the big 4 has a lot of sleeve cap ease? I love knit tops and I'm sorry but you just shouldn't do a bunch of sleeve cap ease with knits. It is just wrong. <br />
<br />
Here are some of the highlights of information that I found in short form: <br />
<br />
<b>Zero Ease</b>:<br />
Fashion Incubator: You do not need any ease if you are willing to redraft the sleeve head to be anatomically correct which is "difficult and time-consuming" Well, I guess I will do some ease then.<br />
<br />
<b>1/2 Inch to 1 1/2 Inches</b>:<br />
<a href="http://www.madalynne.com/" target="_blank">Madalynn</a> has a lot of nice information on her blog about sleeve ease. I will make her info super short, so you may want to double check her blog.<br />
1 to 1.5 inches of ease for Jackets<br />
1/2"to 3/4" for knits<br />
Less for leather<br />
Silhouettes that need more ease are tailored jackets.<br />
Silhouettes that need less ease are drop shoulder styles.<br />
Very soft fabric may need less ease so it does not pucker.<br />
<br />
I'll keep adding to this as I find more information. Feel free to comment and correct me if you want.<br />
Do you drop the sleeve cap height to remove the ease or do you redraft the sleeve? <br />
<br />
Have a lovely weekend!!<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
OK, I'm short and I thought I could make me some stylishly baggy shorts that I spied in the Burdastyle June issue. They seriously need some long skinny legs, which I am not sporting. Anyway, I started at the hem and took one inch on either side and angled the straight ruler to the bottom of the hip area on the outside and the crotch on the inside of the leg. Ta da! they work for my body style. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Now, for the rest of the pics....Can you say Holy Crap, can you believe the fit with no alteration gymnastics!?<br />
No wrinkles under the hiney or at the crotch! I forgot how absolutely fabulous the pant fit on Burdastyle were. This past Spring, I did 5 muslins on the Thurow pants because I love that pattern and wanted them to fit me better.<br />

Here are the welt pockets that I did with the big doo-hickey below. The top is the Dritz bound button holer that I bought for about $16.00 on Ebay and the other is a double welt pocket maker from Clotilde. They are super easy to use and make pretty good welts or bound buttonholes. They work exactly the same way and they come with instructions. Collette patterns has a tute on the bound button hole maker. <a href="http://www.coletterie.com/tutorials-tips-tricks/how-to-use-the-dritz-bound-buttonhole-tool" target="_blank">Bound Button Hole Tutorial with Dritz Tool</a></div>

PS: Only if interested: I have a pre-order for some new products this week. I have my best prices on pre-orders BTW. My favorite new product is a measuring wheel in inches that will fit on the Olfa 45mm rotary cutter. Measuring your armholes and necklines are way easier with a wheel than a ruler.<br />

Taking advantage of the wide leg trend for pants, my DD came across a pattern she loved from an old Burda magazine issue. She and I are both short which makes wide leg pants tricky. This pattern sports a wide waist yoke and stitched down pleats. I added about an inch on the front pattern piece from the crotch point tapering to the knee. I just cut the seam allowance line to the knee and pull the seam allowance out one inch at the crotch point. This is a great adjustment for someone with a cylindrical body and heavy upper thighs. The floral is rayon from Fabrique here in Plano. It is heavenly. The top is difficult to see in black. DD had me change the front of the Sorbetto to have a one inch window of lace fabric down the center and 2 small pleats on either side (4 pleats in all). The black fabric is from the stash and it is a thin crinkly/crepey poly woven. We have plans for more of these pants, they are just that cute in real life! </div>

I thought this dress had a nice shape, but the DD thinks she is too young (17yrs) for a sack dress. I have not hemmed the dress in the photos because she is not so sure about it.<br />
I did take about an inch off the each side from the bottom edge tapering to the waist. I think she will like the next version better if I also take some fullness from the center panel. I think that you will either be OK with the swingy shape or just not do this pattern. I am afraid that removing more fullness might actually make the dress worse. What do you think?<br />

Well, this is just a nice well proportioned sleeveless button down. I really like the front yoke shape and the just right armholes. I did shorten the length about 2 inches at the waist. I did not do a petite adjustment above the bust for this one. I usually do that for knits. I made a size 38 and no FBA! I have lost 10 pounds and I guess it came from up top. The shorts are just some linen Thurlows that I just cut the pant pattern at the knee and hemmed. The self inflicted problems that I had on this shirt are placing the front pocket too close to the placket. This is a thin cotton floral shirt fabric from Fabrique and when I tried to remove the pocket the stitching was very prominent underneath. (Oh well..) I put that sucker back on just where it was! I wish I had a close up of the pocket and collar. I used the templates and they are soooo nice. I thought I would use three different seam allowances on this top and some of that was good and others not so.<br />
I used 5/8ths SA on the sides with flat fell seams,<br />
3/8tns SA on the yoke,<br />
1/4 inch SA on the collar, collar stand, and pocket. I should have done 3/8ths on the collar and stand because I think I just needed a little extra room. There is a portion of my under collar that is not holding so well with the tiny SA, at least it is not noticeable. <br />
The one major change that I did with this pattern is I used 2 yoke pieces so that I could enclose the seams.<br />
Be sure to check out my slideshows of the templates in use.....<br />
<br />
I almost forgot! If anyone is interested in my rulers or templates from the Etsy shop I am doing a 20% off through July 4th. It is INDEPENDENCE20<br />

Sewing hugs to you!<br />

I made these shorts for my DD a couple of weeks ago. Precious really likes them. The fabric is a net material with random cotton shapes sewn down. It looks lacey but not really. I made the smallest size for DD. However, she has a cylindrical torso, so I made some adjustments. I added some width to the inner leg, I slashed and spread in the center of her thigh upward and let out the side and front above her hips. These are typical adjustments for her. The one major change that I did on this pattern was to eliminate the fly front and just use an invisible zip on the side. I am just lazy like that.<br />
The pattern called for a lining fabric used like an underlining. I thought that in no way was I wrestling with slippery lining fabric for a pair of shorts that will probably be only worn one summer. Sooooo, I just used some white poly cotton sheet looking fabric in my overflowing stash as the lining.<br />
<br />
Easy squeezy shorts!<br />

Great pattern! Nice slouchy shaped top for everyday use. The pattern pieces remind my of a mushroom.<br />
<br />
I did a 1/2 inch forward shoulder adjustment and I shortened the waist by one inch. I would say the only thing to keep in mind with this pattern is to make sure there is some negative ease at the hem because you will want this top to stay up in the caboose area.<br />

Ok, This is my favorite top so far. It hides my tummy and butt without being a sack.What is not to love? Changes: I did a forward shoulder adjustment, enlarged the bust area. I just moved the seam allowances over about 3/4inch in the bust area. It looks like another 1/2 inch would be good. It is hard to tell if it was my sewing or if an increased FBA is needed. I totally botched putting this thing together. I fiddled with the front until I had it resembling the picture then I sewed it down. But, good news, Sew Much Fabric out of Houston has a really good review of how to do this water fall in front. <a href="http://www.smfdesignsandfriends.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">http://www.smfdesignsandfriends.blogspot.com/</a> Just scroll down until you see her yellow fabric and you are there. BTW, Roz has some awesome fabric and she is an amazing seamstress. I wish I had seen this before I tore into my lovely fabric.<br />
Moral of this story is to try this pattern! (But with Roz's help)<br />

There are several that are very very cute, so be sure to go. I have made Neue Mode before and I really like their instructions. They do not have seam allowances, but you know I can help you with that (haha).<br />

Sewaholic's Thurlow Pants are wonderful! This is my second muslin. There are still some fitting tweaks but overall a flattering fit and wearable. This is a 21 wale cordoroy with a slight stretch. I am not usually too keen on cordoroy because it tends to make one look heavier. So, I am guessing when I make this in twill, it will be even more slimming. (yay!). My first muslin, I made a weird adjustment. Besides taking an 1 1/2 off of the length (they are still too long), I angled the zipper seam back 1/2 inch tapering to zero 3 inches down. There seemed to be too much fabric just in the front middle. I definitely have a tummy, so I am wondering if it is just the angle of my hips. <br />

The obligatory shot from behind. One leg has wrinkles and the other not so much. Hmmmmm, I am usually pretty careful about grainline. Maybe one thigh is larger? Let me know what you think. The Ottobre top from 5-2012 needs a sway back adjustment. More on that pattern later.<br />
Some notes on the pattern itself:<br />
The instructions are good. I automatically grade my seam allowances on waistbands and other bulky areas, but it is not mentioned in their instructions. I used a lining fabric on the inside of the waistband and should have used the corduroy. The hook and eye closure that I used had prongs instead of sewn. The prongs needed a more substantial fabric to latch onto. I also omitted beltloops because I never wear my shirts tucked. On step 17 the dotted sewing line goes straight at the center of the waistband when it should angle back in order to accommodate the folding down of the waistband. The back seam has a wide seam allowance to adjust fit. I used the actual chalk line because of my sway back. I also scooped out the back crotch 1/4 inch. I compared the flexible ruler version of my crotch curve to the pattern's stitching line. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d_IZ8sPyUq4/UQXf5xKzxfI/AAAAAAAABXI/rKFcoiu5OlQ/s1600/IMAGE_B8F9FEA7-6471-494A-879B-36A8EC2AD87F.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d_IZ8sPyUq4/UQXf5xKzxfI/AAAAAAAABXI/rKFcoiu5OlQ/s320/IMAGE_B8F9FEA7-6471-494A-879B-36A8EC2AD87F.JPG" width="128" /></a></div>
Ottobre tee shirt from 5/2012:<br />
Nice tee shirt pattern. The arms are slim fitting and it is fitted at the hips. The brown fabric is a stretchy rayon knit and the pattern fit OK with this fabric. The black and white Escher print from Fabrique! fabrics was more stable. I added width to the pattern at my hips to allow for this difference. I forgot to add a bit of width to the arms and now they are a somewhat tight. I did a forward shoulder adjustment to the Escher top which improved the looks. I still need to shorten this top at the back waist and add a sway back adjustment. Both tops have a FBA.<br />
I am just starting on fit issues and I am looking forward to getting this part of my sewing better.<br />

of my rulers but they have the best fabric in Dallas. I just got back
from there and decided to do a giveaway of some of their fabric and an
EZ Shirtmaker template. The fabric in the picture are 2 yards or just
under 2 yards except the lace, which is approximately 1 1/4 yards. These
fabrics are super nice and retail at Fabrique! for $10 a yard to $45.00
a yard. I do love me some gorgeous fabric!<br />

<br />
Believe it or not, I have cleaned this area up quite a bit. My sewing machine is getting its yearly checkup and I have been missing it so much. I guess this is proof that I love notions and thread and am a bit of a pig. Anyhoo, I have put a Facebook page for my rulers and templates. On the left of this blog is a link where you can like my page. I am going to use it to announce coupon codes and possible new products. I am thinking about buying a case of those huge ziplock bags for my Jalie patterns and pattern magazines and medical exam paper. So if this would interest you, let me know. I will totally keep the prices down on those items. My sticking point with the paper is how to package and ship cheaply. I do have a surprise offering coming up soon, so be sure to go and like me!! Because I like you ( I couldn't resist :) )<br />
<br />
Happy Day to you,<br />

How cool is this! I am so excited to share some of my favorite bloggers too. Art Attack is one of my absolutely favorite bloggers. I think I buy almost all of the patterns she shares on Pattern Review because she has such incredible style and I want to be just like her! ;) Vogue definitely needs to hire her. She is my sewing heroine too!</span></div>

Because she is probably the funniest sewing blogger that I know of. You have to visit and sign up for her posts, you will adore her like I do. She only uses prints, never open toed shoes and she loves Disney. </span></div>

<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Another incredibly talented and funny blogger is <a href="http://fitforaqueen.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Fit for a Queen</a>. <span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><a href="http://www.21wale.com/" target="_blank">21 Wale</a> is a wonderful sewing blogger. She is the mom of five and sews a ton. She holds a special place in my sewing heart because she was one of the first to belong to my blog. She also loves Ottobre like I do.</span></div>

<span style="color: #660000; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://katiekadiddlehopper.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Kadiddlehopper</a> is another great sewing blogger. I subscribe to her Flickr sewing mail and she is also KidMD on pattern review. She not only is a wonderful seamstress but a mom and a pediatrician. Whew, her life would be like stepping into a tornado. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://bluemooney.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Blue Mooney</a> I have actually met in person. She, like myself, is part of the huge Dallas -Ft Worth Metroplex. Not only is she a super nice person but she is a fabulous resource for shirt making and other sewing endeavors. She has started back doing illustrations and I adore her sewing ones. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Speaking of shirtmaking, if you do not already know about Pam's <a href="http://off-the-cuff-style.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Off the Cuff Style</a> sewing blog, you are in for a treat. She has the best shirt making tutorials and truly the best interfacing out there. Pam, may not know this, but a couple of years ago, I emailed a pdf of my first SA Curve ruler. When she replied positively, I was totally going to jump off the deep end and make my rulers. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://sewingbyshirley.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Shirley Ann</a>'s sewing blog. Shirley Ann, is one of my best online sewing friends. She loves Jalie and Ottobre like I do! She has one of the best organized blogs that I have seen. Check out her son's cargo-type pants, they are soooo cool!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Last, but certainly not least, is <a href="http://dixiediy.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Dixie DIY</a>. If you have not visited Dixie's blog, you are in for a treat. She has loads of style and the most amazing bra making resource on her blog. I am dead to try her patterns, they are sooo cute. She is also a fellow Texan and I know she keeps this heat in mind when she sews.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The last of the requirements of this award are to list 7 things about yourself. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. I adore sailing in high winds. Otherwise, I am a pretty tame person.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. I started sewing regularly about 10 years ago. I thought I would make a shower curtain for my weird accessible bathroom (son) and was talked into a serger too. Oh my, I loved that serger and just kept making any and everything with it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. I was making blanket ponchos (I will never make another poncho again) for a friend who needed samples for a QVC adventure and realized he may know how to get my rulers produced at a reasonable price. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. I play the piano. I have played the saxophone, flute, and drums in a school band. I wish I could sing. My daughter is now the resident vocalist.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. Some of my college (1985) was spent at the University of Vienna. Oh how I would love to go back there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
6. My brother in law is an unbelievably amazing professional Clown. He is called Tharpo of All Occasion Performers. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
7. This is for Art Attack because of her survival training with her sisters(so funny). I have 3 brothers and my dad used to take us to learn sailing on a very small Butterfly sailboat. I think we were all pretty worthless at it and I do have some funny memories of that time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<span style="color: #660000; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">1. Thank the person who nominated you (THANK YOU ART ATTACK!!)<br />2. Add <b>The One Lovely Blog Award </b>/ <b>The Very Inspiring Blogger Award</b> to your post.<br />3. Share 7 things about yourself.<br />4. Pass the award on to 10 nominees (or a few less if you are short on time)<br />5. Include this set of rules.<br />6. Inform your nominees by posting a comment on their blogs.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is my daughter wearing the Kwik Sew leggings. She wanted this legging pattern because of the cute zip on the leg. The ones I made here are sans zip. Yes, those are a magazine print in cotton lycra from Fabric Fairy. I thought, cool, when she is bored she can just read her legs. You can tell I am almost 50 and she is almost 17. This is a a one pattern piece pattern. It is super easy and absolutely no problems with any of the construction. She is wearing it with black shorts in the pic and a tunic top from Aritzia (her fav store), Modcloth jacket and her itsy bitsy Coach purse. She is 5 foot 2 inches and about 108 pounds. I made the extra small for her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you need a legging pattern that is super easy and great fit, then this is a good choice.</div>

This was my attempt to mesh two patterns together. I like the outcome, but I will be doing this differently on my next one.<br />
The Vogue is out of print and I believe Style Arc has a similar tee. I can tell you how I <u>think</u> you can make this without those two patterns, because I am going to try this again without either of these patterns. On this top, I used the sleeves from S2181 and traced the front portion of the armhole to the front pattern piece and the same for the back. After I sewed this up, the shoulders were to wide. I fixed the cap by sewing it deeper into the body which gave medium results. This is the reason the next version will be with a TNT like Jalie, Kwik Sew or Ottobre's basic tee. ( more on my hypothesis later)<br />
<br />
Changes besides the sleeves,<br />
Lowered the neckline by 2 inches<br />
Neckline with self fabric: See my video on how to put on a knit neckline without measuring.<br />
Lengthened top by 2 inches<br />
<br />
What I will do next time, or if you do not have this OOP Vogue:<br />
<br />
I will take a portion of my knit fabric designated for the top and sew down the pleats. These pleats are marked 1 inch apart and 9 inches long. They are sewn down with 1/4 inch seams. The pattern has 12 pleats going to the center, mine are all going to the left and 11 pleats. Then I will lay my front pattern on top of this and cut it out. That way the sleeves will match the pattern used. I guess you could also spread your TNT top pattern 12 inches out for the pleats if you are using a one layer pattern front.<br />
<br />
If anyone has done this similar to my above hypothesis, let me know if it worked out or should I do something different.<br />
<br />
Happy Sewing!<br />

This is a great little tee pattern. I made a size 14 and straightened the side seam a little. My waist is not too little anymore. Anyhoo, my daughter said that it was slimming, therefore it is my new favorite top. I am wearing it with some Jalie jeans that I made. I won't show you the waist of these jeans because I had to put some elastic in them so they would stay up. The tee has a large front facing that I accidentally omitted. Once I had the front twist done, I skipped the instructions. This pattern needs a facing for the neck so I just copied the back neckline and added 2 1/2 inches in width. I cut the front facing 2 1/2 inches wide and joined it to my back facing at the shoulders then attached it to the neck hole. I understitched the facing and then coverstitched it down about 1/2 inch from the edge. The next one is going to have an inch in length added. I am 5' 2" and it just seems short to me. No other fitting adjustments were done. I wish I had done a little more matching work on the stripes, but I'm not sure I am too bothered by that. It was fun, easy and flattering!</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Back of the jeans.<br />
<br />
UPDATE: I forgot some information that is handy. Jennifer Stern recommends washing and drying your yardage 5 times before cutting out. This really made sure the jeans were going to fit later. Also, she mentioned AK fabrics for denim out of NY and even though this pair is not from there, I have bought 8 yards of denim and loved every one. Their medium weight is heavier than what you might think. </td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I went to the ASG convention in Houston back in August. I took Jennifer Stern's all day jeans fitting class. I have also been making some Jalie Jeans too. (total 6 pair)<br />
Jalie fits me pretty good out of the envelop like most people. My thighs are a little large for Jalie and I added the J Stern fit issue to that pattern.<br />
<br />
So, here are my fit changes:<br />
<br />
Regular rise adjustment: Added 1 inch to front and back pattern piece.<br />
Crotch length adjustment: Cut the lengthen/shorten crotch length line all the way across and pulled the top of this pattern 1/2 inch to the back (or side seam).<br />
Crooked side seam adjustment: My thighs are a bit thick, so we added 1/2 inch to the front side seam and it made the pulling of the side seam on my leg straighten (yay!)><br />
Yoke: We pleated out the fullness with tiny darts and adjusted that pattern piece.<br />
<br />
These jeans run small and they are designed for non-stretch denim. I went up 2 sizes from my measurements. The above jeans are stretch and I just took them in 1/2 inch on both sides.<br />
<br />
What I really like about this pattern are the amazing instructions. It also has cute pocket flaps. She has 3 different seam allowances. 3/8th for things like the pockets. 1/2 inch seam allowances throughout most of the pattern. This is super for making wider parallel top stitching. She uses 3/4 inch seam allowances at the yoke and the inner leg to accommodate the flat fell seam in those places. I have added those design changes to my Jalie pattern. She also has a contoured waist band or straight if you prefer. She even tells you how long to make the stitch length for top stitching. Back pocket location instructions include how far from the yoke on the inner pocket corner and outer pocket corner for placement. I wish all pattern makers would give inch information on placements and rectangular pieces (like Burda WOF).<br />
My absolute favorite aspect of these jeans are the leg. I have tried making a Jalie/J Stern frankenpatterns with what I like best of each. I am still going with 2 separate pairs.<br />
<br />
My timesaver: No double needle and I used regular thread. I lengthened the stitch (topstitching) to 4.5 and I used a double stitch on my Viking.<br />
<br />
There you have it!<br />

The corset belt from an old Burda magazine. I was going to teach my daughter how to sew and this is what she picked out. I went ahead and finished it because her hands hurt to cut out anything, even paper. It was a quick and fun little project. I traced 3/8th inch seam allowances with my handy-dandy seam allowance ruler. I used bits and pieces from denim and upholstry fabrics. I sewed the fabrics of various widths together. Then, I just put the pattern pieces on this pieced together fabric and cut them out. We did add some red piping between the two front pieces. It needed some color. The outer fabric is interfaced with a medium woven fusible. It is also lined with a Bemberg type lining. The 3 ribbons on each side are attached in the back and then just pulled to the front and tied in a bow. The only adjustment I made was to cut off 3/8ths of an inch from the lower edge. It was just a wee bit too wide for her small frame. Plus, I told her it would look like a small apron if I did not do something about its size (ha). We both think that it would look really cute with a simple dress. Next one, I will probably add some boning in the back where the ribbons attach or maybe some heavy interfacing at the ends.<br />
I guess this is why I like sewing for my daughter. At 16, she always has an oddball project she dreams up that somehow seems to look pretty cute on her. <br />
<br />
Hugs and smooches from me to you!<br />

I just finished the Ottobre Woman Gardener shirt. I love this shirt. It is not fitted through the waist like the Jalie shirt which I really like too, but this is definitely designed to go over another shirt. I love that this is a cut on placket. There is no yoke, but at the back shoulders there is 2 small darts for shaping. I did leave off the front pockets. I just could not see pockets on this embroidered cotton that I bought at Super Textiles in Dallas.<br />

Here is the Ottobre pic: <br />
<br />
<br />
The seams are meant to be sewn, finished (serged) then top stitched. So, I added 5/8th seam allowances through out except for the collar pieces and the cuffs and where they attach. Those were a 1/4 inch seam allowance. I made a size 38 and added a FBA of one inch. I always add an inch FBA to my Ottobre patterns. They must be drafted for a B cup and I am a C-D cup. The other changes I made were in the fabric selection area. Instead of another print for the bottom section of the front, I just made the embroidery design go horizontal. I added a Liberty of London print from Fabrique! to the sleeve vents, front inside placket, collar stand and piping at the front. I have just been petting the Liberty of London and decided I would add a little to this shirt. Liberty of London is soooo nice to work with and look at. I will be saving every scrap from my large piece destined for my daughter's wardrobe.<br />
This is a great Ottobre magazine. Hopefully, I will be sewing the other patterns in this issue real soon.<br />
<br />
Take care,<br />

I did the FBA similarly to Colette's Anise jacket FBA<br />

I think Colette has a very good step by step FBA example. <br />

Good Luck!!<br />

Meet my son Will. Will finished school in August and has been helping me mail the rulers and templates. He goes to the post office to flirt with the cute clerks. We gotta keep the postal employees amused. He also helps me with bubble wrapping the rulers. He gets a little side tracked because he loves to squeeeeeze those bubbles. For the curious minded, Will has cerebral palsy from being born really premature and he is 22 years old. I pay Will for helping me with large cokes.Caffeine will get the job done!<br />
<br />
Have a great weekend!<br />

Hugs and smooches,<br />
